The Land of Hops & Glory is back. This early season sportive set in the beautiful rolling Herefordshire countryside between the Malvern’s and the Wye Valley makes a welcome return for 2018. Once again the event will be based in Stoke Lacy at the home of Wye Valley Brewery. As in previous editions of the event the route is set in an area of the country labelled the "Hop Shires". Riders will register in the bar at the brewery site before setting off to take on the "Full Pint" challenge route. This stunning route takes riders around this verdant local landscape with plenty to admire in the distinctive red soils, hop farms, apple orchards and views of Hay Bluff and the distant Welsh mountains. The route winds its way through the quiet Herefordshire lanes passing many of the local hop farms, which supply the numerous breweries in the area and others much further afield. After tracking the route of the River Wye the ride skirts the Much Marcle ridge before heading up towards the Malvern Hills, the inspiration behind many of the works by Edward Elgar, not least of all the rousing - Land of Hope & Glory. The climb at Colwall comes just before the feedstation, but the effort is worth it as riders refuel with glorious views back across the Herefordshire countryside they have just ridden. Energy levels topped up, riders will drop down off the Malvern Hills, back into the picturesque rolling countryside, through sleepy villages, passing Stocks Farm along the way, a local hop producer with international renown. It’s then onto the final few miles, back into Herefordshire, to the brewery for a well earned bit of locally produced refreshment. Fun Ride (Half Pint) - 32 miles, Challenge Ride (Full Pint) - 60 miles Registration fees: Fun Ride (Half Pint) £20, Challenge Ride (Full Pint) £30.
