Ride the sun! This demanding yet spectacular cycle challenge takes us from lakeside Geneva through the Alps and Provence, following part of the historic Route Napoleon as we head south to the Mediterranean city of Nice. Your route takes in mountain passes, quiet valley roads and cruising descents. You will cycle via the picturesque towns of Annecy and Sisteron as you head through beautiful scenery of towering mountain peaks, spectacular limestone cliffs and gorges, dense forests and lavender fields. With long, challenging days in the saddle, the magnificence of the landscape motivates you to keep pedalling! Your unforgettable ride ends with a fabulous descent from the hills to Nice and the beach, where you'll have time to relax and appreciate your huge achievement. All accommodation is included as well as transfers to/from airports, and all meals except two (see more details). It also includes full trip support of experienced Discover Adventure leaders, drivers and mechanics. Support vehicles are with the group all of the time and carry your luggage to the hotels. This six day challenge is a great follow on for anyone that has completed a London to Paris cycle event. What better way to start this amazing challenge than to watch the finale of the Tour de France in the heart of Paris before setting off on this cycling adventure down to lakeside Geneva – our finishing point after five glorious days in the saddle. Cycle through famous landmarks of Paris, fields of wheat and sunflowers before crossing the beautiful Jura mountains and the hair-pin bends of the Col de la Faucille (1,323m), a climb that has featured many times in the Tour de France. Join Action Medical Research on this fabulous cycling adventure. Ride from the unique city of Venice on the Adriatic Coast to the Italian capital of Rome. This trip combines diverse, challenging cycling with a wonderful Italian experience. Our exciting challenge takes us south on flat roads from the canals of Venice to the rolling hills of Tuscany and Umbria. The terrain is perfect cycling country; hilly with some long climbs and steep gradients. It is not for the unprepared cyclist so training is advised. We will pass terracotta-roofed towns with striking bell-towers and Renaissance churches and small traditional villages hidden among the fields of corn, fruit and olives. We come down out of the hills on our last day and have a relatively flat run-in to Rome, where we finish a stone’s throw away from some of the iconic main sights. Cycle approximately 250 miles on this truly wonderful, and most picturesque cycling adventure from charming Salzburg to elegant Vienna. Ride along the lakes and rivers of Salzach and Inn to Passau on the German/Austrian border before joining the mighty Danube to journey south past medieval towns, ancient vineyards, abbeys and romantic castles to the Austrian capital. Day One: Arrive in Salzburg, your chance to take in this beautiful city before the cycling starts on day 2. Day Two: Salzburg to Passau (approx 65 miles). Day Three: Passau to Linz following the mighty Danube (approx 58 miles). Day Four: Linz to St Polten, through the stunning scenery of the Land of the Lakes (approx 78 miles). Day Five: St Polten to Vienna (approx 54 miles). Day Six: Departure back to the UK after a hearty team breakfast!
